Just Because…

Our staff were talking about their favourite books, and we began to wonder if it is actually possible to go around the world in 80 days.

    The Science

In the 21 st century it has never been easier to go around the world in 80 days.
Thanks to developments in aerospace technology a trip around the globe can be achieved in less than two weeks.
But if a person doesn’t want to go by plane, there are other ways of travelling around the world.
In 1987, Steven Newman took four years to walk around the world, whilst Steve Fossett, took just under fifteen days to travel around the world in a hot air balloon in 2002

    The Future

The next record waiting to be set is for the first person to swim around the world.
In 2015 Slovenian swimmer, Martin Strel announced he was going to achieve this record in a 450 day swim, consisting of over 9000 miles.
Whether he achieves this record is yet to be seen, but we wish him the best of luck with this herculean feat.
